7 years of administering Selangor, Pakatan breaks racial barrier

PANDAN, 5 Oct: The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government managed to break the racial barrier as the most important achievement in the seven years of administering the state.

The Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that this is because the state’s success is in the harmony of the people and knowing each other.

“Today, we want to see the manifestation of the Selangor’s government in uniting its people. Over the past seven years as the government, Pakatan managed to break the barriers of various races in the state.

“We look at all the programmes organised by the state government or the Community Service Centres (PKM), be it programmes for Hari Raya, Chinese New Year or Deepavali. It is not attended by only one race, but all races,” he said.

He said this at the Chempaka Lantern Festival in Pandan Jaya last night.

However, Iskandar said that there are still some people who are deliberately playing up racial sentiments, like what happened at the Red Shirt Rally, in the interest of corrupt political leaders.

“I remember once when the Chinese performed the Dragon Dance with loud drum sounds, us Malays were afraid of the performance because we felt like it threatened us.

“But if we recognise other cultures, the fear is gone,” said Iskandar.

When touching on the estimated attendance of nearly 1,000 attendees, Iskandar said that he did not expect to receive such a positive response despite the haze.
