SHAH ALAM, 5 Oct: The Selangor Digital Creative Centre (SDCC) is able to bring about major changes to Selangor in moving towards being a Smart State.
The Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that as the largest contributor in Malaysia’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), it is the state government’s responsibility to provide the best infrastructural facilities.
“This is a result of the initiative of Invest Selangor in making Selangor a Smart State. Despite it being a small step to some, it can change towards the direction of a world-class Smart State.
“With the launch of the SDCC, we see creative, innovative and capability matters being the key success toward the success of the state government’s desire,” he said during the launch of the SDCC at I-City.
Mohamed Azmin said that the SDCC helps entrepreneurs start businesses and companies using the facilities provided.
“This aspiration cannot be seen in isolation, but must be viewed in the context of a strategic vision to propel Selangor into the regional platform.
“In the study of leading markets and international reports, E-commerce in Malaysia is a large part of the total trading transactions in the coming year. With this rapid growth, there is also concomitant increase in the number of people buying products online.
“In fact, the highest online transactions per capita in Southeast Asia are in Malaysia and Singapore where it generates almost half of the total online retail sales,” he said.
He said that the SDCC offers innovation and entrepreneurship to foster future entrepreneurs, especially entrepreneurs in small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“Almost 80 percent of the space is already occupied. I believe with high-tech equipment and maker movement which plays an important role, it will stimulate dynamic growth through technological and creative learning,” he said.
The SDCC provides workplace sharing for new entrepreneurs to help them start a career and to expand their business network.
The state government expects that within the next 12 months, monthly classes will be carried out for e-commerce entrepreneurs, in addition to the annual conference to obtain investors in innovation who are trained at the SDCC.
The SDCC, with an area of 11,000 square feet, accommodates seminar rooms, meeting rooms, multi-functional offices, creator spaces and cafes.
Entrepreneurs are provided with tables and wifi facilities, in addition to seminars.
Prior to this, the state government established the Selangor Information and E-commerce Centre (SITEC) in the effort to support electronic commerce (e-commerce) widely.
The SDCC was established as a major project for the investment Stanco to make the state an international trade hub to bring together technology experts, business representatives and academics to formulate suitable e-commerce business models.
