JAIS sedia siasat jika wujud aktiviti pemujaan kubur Kampung Jalan Kebun

JAIS ready to investigate grave worshiping activities at Kampung Jalan Kebun

BY: NAZLI IBRAHIM

SHAH ALAM, JUL 22: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) will take stern action against any parties committing superstitious activities including deviant acts of worship at cemeteries.

Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs Exco Dato’ Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said the public is advised to file a complaint if they are aware of any activity contrary to Islamic teachings.

“JAIS definitely takes this matter seriously. If anyone is aware of it; don’t wait, quickly lodge a complaint to JAIS for investigation and further action,” he said at a ceremony at Sultan Alam Shah Museum.

He said this when asked to comment on a widespread announcement on Whatsapp regarding the decision by Jalan Kebun Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) to hold hajat prayers (performed for fulfillment of a wish) at An-Naim Mosque after Friday prayers to prevent residents from being disturbed by ‘spirits’.

The alleged disturbance by ‘spirits’ was also linked to deviant acts of worship at the cemetery.

To verify this story, SelangorKini contacted one of the numbers listed in the announcement.

JKKK Secretary Mahmud Maftam said investigations revealed that there was a purported sinkhole in one of the graves, which is believed to have been caused by settling of soil.

“It is actually an old grave. We believe the hole is a result of soil settling and decomposition of old grave boards, which causes soil to settle to the very bottom,” he said to SelangorKini.

When asked to elaborate on the inexplicable incidents in the village, Mahmud said so far two villagers had contacted JKKK on being disturbed by ‘spirits’.
