Rural and urban development need to be aligned

BANTING, SEP 20: The Rural Physical Planning Research in Selangor is hoped to help the State Government determine the direction of rural development in order to not fall behind development in the cities.

Islamic Religious Affairs, Malay Customs & Heritage, Rural & Traditional Villages Development Exco Dato’ Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said rural development needs to be aligned with cities in accordance to Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s vision as stated in the Smart Selangor 2016 policy.

“Research is important as we want accurate and reliable data.

“We do not want to be sidelined despite rapid urban development in Selangor as long as it is done proactively,” he said.

He was speaking during an official closing speech for the Selangor Rural Physical Strategic Direction Plan Group Discussion Workshop at the Dewan Seri Jugra, Telok Datok, Banting.

The Selangor Rural Physical Strategic Direction Plan is to aimed at providing a holistic rural development plan.

This development plan encompasses traditional, organised, new, Orang Asal and quay villages.

Ahmad Yunus said the research is expected to be completed in 2017 and the implementation from the findings will possibly be included in the 2018 Budget.

The workshop which was started over a month ago is entering its sixth session involving nine districts in Selangor.
