BY AFIX REDZUAN

KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 14: Pakatan Harapan listed five main thrust to combat corruption if it governs Putrajaya after the 14th General Election (GE14).

Its Chairman, Tun Mahathir Mohamad said these five thrusts are to support its five actions that will be taken within 100 days if they are selected to become Federal Government.

“The five thrusts are Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Reformation, Political Contribution Reformation, Enhanced Transparency Reformation, Open Tender Practices using Anti-Corruption Technology and Introducing Anti-Corruption Culture among society,” he said.

Through the MACC Reformation, the unit will become an independent body to report and responsible to Parliament besides being given prosecution power in any corruption case.

The appointment of its Chief Commisioner will be made by Yang Dipertuan Agong upon advise from Parliamentary Committee.

Political Contribution Reformation will see that every contribution is limited to a maximum of RM200,000 a year and contribution exceeding RM10,000 must be recorded.

“Political contributions cannot be given by GLCs and companies that have contracts with Federal or State Government.

“Every political party must provide an annual report on political contribution and expenses directly to the Auditor-General’s (AG) office and the AG will report it to Parliament,”

Under the Transparency Enhancement Reformation, acts like the Witness Protection Act 2009, Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 and the Official Secrets Act 1972 will be amended to enhance transparency.

The Freedom of Information Act will also be amended as Selangor and Penang have done while people’s representatives and government senior officials in the Jusa C category and above, GLCs’ senior management and above must declare their properties to Parliament.

All open tender will be done online and accessible by public. The use of the e-perolehan and e-bidaan systems will expanded for all government contracts. These are among the initiatives under the Open Tender Practices using Anti-Corruption Technology

Wan Azizah responded to ‘Najib’s Wan Azizah’

BY ERMIZI MUHAMAD

KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 30: Opposition leader, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail commented on Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s sarcasm citing an individual named ‘Wan Azizah’s’ success during the 2018 Budget presentation.

The Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament said, the individual’s success is a result of the successful implementation of the former minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s policy.

Wan Azizah said, Anwar Ibrahim who was then in the Federal Government’s cabinet had introduced the Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) in an effort to help local entrepreneurs.

“Thank you to YB Pekan on Kak Zah’s story yesterday and for making the effort to invite Kak Wan Azizah Wan Salleh to the Dewan Rakyat.

“Congratulations to Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia for successfully guiding a woman entrepreneur.

“I would like to remind that this effort started from Universiti Sains Malaysia’s research and paper which was promoted by Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in 1987.

“It became a special programme to eradicate poverty among the citizens and Kak Wan’s success proved the success of Anwar Ibrahim’s policy,” she said while debating in Dewan Rakyat this morning.

Earlier, Najib quoted the name ‘Wan Azizah’ in his 2018 Budget presentation as a strong individual who is successful in entrepreneurship.

That was believed to be an insinuation to opposition leader to attack her leadership.

For the record, Wan Azizah Wan Salleh started her business with an initial RM500 loan from AIM.

The female entrepreneur is now a successful millionaire in the field of chicken farming and processing.

Education Minister is merely good at talking but ignorant of teachers’ burden

BY CHANG LIH KANG

I take note of the Education Minister, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid’s statement dismissing claims that teachers’ workload in schools are leaving them with no time to get close with students.

He said that teachers in this country are not burdened with the working hours as set by the international agency.

  1. To me, Mahdzir is not talking based on reality, in fact he was merely talking based on surface value. He needs to know that teachers’ workload is increasing when they are now required to carry out tasks outside the learning scope.

This extra burden has not only affected their actual duty as educators, in fact some teachers are living under work-stress besides having to get involved with co-curricular activities and attend various courses.

  1. Not only that, teachers are also forced to do administrative and clerical jobs. The implication is that these educators are unable to give full commitment to the quality and process of teaching and learning in the classroom.

Besides that, I also received complaints that papers supplied by the government are not enough for the materials to be photocopied to students.

Then, teachers must find other means to secure funds to buy papers. There are teachers who use their own money to buy papers.

  1. To me, the Malaysian Education Ministry (KPM) must play a role to address these problems. KPM must find a solution to provide extra funding to schools to buy papers for students’ use in schools. Not to cut education budget.

Teachers’ job which is getting increasingly tough and challenging is prone to put pressure on them. The job which is originally a form of responsibility is now beginning to feel like a burden.

This will surely cause a lot of distress to teachers. They are forced to do their work and the result will surely fall short of expectations.

If these burdens are eliminated, then each teacher will be able to fully commit and focus on teaching duties in the classroom to improve students’ performance in view of less workload.

In fact, the quality of our education system can also match that of other Asian countries and become technologically, theoretically and technically competitive.

MB: If you want to copy then let us lead Putrajaya

BY AFIZ REDZUAN

SHAH ALAM, OCT 30: Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali cynically told the Federal Government that they might as well let PAKATAN lead Putrajaya rather than replicating its administration module.

He said a big portion of the 2018 Budget tabled by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been done in Selangor, in fact he has no problem to implement the same at federal level.

“Last two days (October 27), when the prime minister tabled the 2018 budget, most of the initiatives have been done in Selangor.

“But it is alright. If he feels the policies in Selangor are good, he can follow, there’s no problem. If he wants to follow or replicate everything, we might as well be in Putrajaya to save the nation,” he said.

He said that at the 2017 Selangor Indian Entrepreneur Programme Launch at the Midlands Convention Centre, Shah Alam, yesterday.

Among the initiatives introduced by the Federal Government and closely resembling those done in Selangor are MyBrain, a fund for newborn known as ADAM50 and the Off-River Storage (ORS) to protect water sources.

He said, the Federal Government ‘s budget allocating 84% for administration compared to 16% for development is seen to be incapable to save Malaysia’s economy.

“How is he (Najib) going to save the citizens and the economy of development spending is reduced to 16%? PERMATA receive RM600 million. Prime Minister’s office gets additional budget of RM1.5 billion.

“That is why administration budget rose to 84% and development budget reduced from 18% in 2017 to 16% for 2018,” he said.
