Against 33-Storey Project: Residents of Damansara Damai Relieved by MBPJ’s Decision

SHAH ALAM, 21 Apr: The residents of Damansara Damai were relieved following the decision by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to not issue permission to the developer to build the 33-storey apartment as long as a second passage to the area is not built.

The Saujana Apartment Joint Management Body (JMB) Chairman, Nazri Ismail, said that the residents in Damansara Damai also hope that the promise given by the Mayor, Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad, to the Bukit Lanjan Assemblywoman, Elizabeth Wong, will be fulfilled.

“We welcome this decision because this is what we hoped for and hopefully she will keep her promise in the interest of the community here.

“We also hope that not only the 33-storey project, but other projects in this area will be postponed until a second road is completed,” said Nazri Ismail when contacted by Selangor Kini.

Commenting on the role played by the Assemblywoman of Bukit Lanjan, Nazri thanked Elizabeth Wong who was willing to join the residents in the protest held last week.

“The role and support by Yang Berhormat (YB) is very meaningful to us.

“She managed to negotiate and obtain consent from the Mayor to postpone the project until a second road is built. We thank her,” added Nazri.

On Sunday, about 150 residents of Damansara Damai held a peaceful demonstration in front of the traffic-light junction near Saujana Apartment and Idaman Apartment since 10 in the morning to protest against the construction of the 33-storey apartment.

Elizabeth Wong was also present in the protest and announced MBPJ’s agreement to not issue the planning permission in Damansara Damai until a second path is built.

She claimed that the construction of the project will increase the population density in Damansara Damai, thus worsening social issues and traffic congestion, especially during the morning peak hour.

Damansara Damai is estimated to have a population of over 80,000 people who share a single path with the residents of Saujana Damansara, Sutera Damansara and Prima Damansara.
