State Government Proactive in Completing Abandoned Projects

SHAH ALAM, 8 Apr: The State Government is taking proactive measures by using their power under the National Land Code 1965 to take over the land of abandoned projects to be redeveloped according to plan.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that this move clearly bore fruit when two mega housing projects that have abandoned for a long time was completed under the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) administration; the Alam Perdana in Ijok and Bukit Botak projects.

He said that the State Government will continue to fight for the rights of the people in Selangor to avoid buyers from being abused and cheated due to housing projects that fail to be completed.

“I want to remind council members that it is a criminal offence for housing developers to not complete their projects.

“Therefore, council members should review the law so that there will not be problems of abandoned projects which have resulted in many buyers being cheated and hundreds of millions of ringgit lost because a project is not completed.

“I am among the Chief Ministers who have been brought before the Federal Court for taking land for the people of Selangor. I will fight for the rights of the people,” he said, in reply to an oral question from Dr Abdul Rani Osman (PAS-Meru).

At the same time, Abdul Khalid also informed that an Abandoned Project Recovery Committee involving all stakeholders has also been established to monitor the progress of projects that have failed to be completed until now.

He said that the committee comprises of the Selangor Housing and Property Authority (LPHS) Executive Director and is chaired by the Executive Council in charge of Housing, Iskandar Abdul Samad.

“It also comprises of the legal counsel from the Public Works Department (JKR), representatives of Local Authorities and representatives from the Insolvency Department to provide advice and views on solutions to the problem of abandoned housing (projects),” he said.
