A ceasefire has also been declared within a 10-kilometre radius around the crash site, to allow international investigators to safely access the MH17 site in eastern Ukraine.

In the meantime, the UN Security Council unanimously condemned the shooting down of the jet and urged for full access to the site which is located at the rebellion area in eastern Ukraine.

Australia, which led the preparation of the resolution draft, urged for an internal investigation to be held.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Julie Bishop, called upon the UN to bring those responsible to justice.

According to AFP, the Security Council also urged all countries to cooperate in the investigation and Russia is suspected of supporting pro-Moscow rebels and accused of supplying sophisticated missile weapons.

After three days of negotiations, Russia agreed to the resolution after the sentence on who will lead the investigation of the disaster was altered.

Prior to this, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) fully supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s decision to hold a special parliamentary session to discuss the MH17 tragedy.

Opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that PR is also committed to any form of resolution to condemn the tragedy which is deemed as a crime of genocide.

He said that the PM should state clearly who is responsible for the tragedy, regardless of who they are.
