MH17: The Malaysian Government should be more resolute in tackling the crisis, says Anwar

SHAH ALAM, 22 July: The Malaysian Government should be more resolute in addressing the MAS MH17 aircraft tragedy, where the jet was allegedly shot down, because the unfortunate incident involves national interest and people lost their lives.

The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also criticised Russia’s move to help the separatists as the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aircraft tragedy was said to have been shot down by the separatist group in Ukraine.

“We will urge the government to be more resolute, especially in facing the separatist group in Ukraine who have weapons aid from Russia.

“We understand that the weapon and missile used was highly sophisticated, it is definitely with Russia’s help,” said Anwar, quoted from The Malaysian Insider.

He also urged the government to be more assertive in ensuring the safety of air space and the crash site.

“We need to take a firm attitude because not only were lives lost, but after that, there was no guarding of the area at all in the interest of those killed.

“So, there should be a more assertive attitude,” said Anwar.

The MH17 aircraft which was carrying 283 passengers and 15 crew members was believed to have been shot down by the separatist group in the region of Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, when travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

The Boeing 777-200 took off from Amsterdam at 12.15pm (Dutch time) on Thursday and was scheduled to arrive at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 6.10am (Malaysia time) the following day.
