SHAH ALAM, 7 Jan: The Selangor government will ensure that the approval for every development in the state is done properly, heading the natural disaster in the East Coast recently.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that every development approval applied for should hold the principles of development of being of quality and cares for the people.

He said that the decision on the matter was decided by the State Executive Council (MMKN) recently.

“With the changes in climate at that moment, it is a challenge to the state government to be more cautious in giving approval in relation to development.

“There is no meaning to development if it negatively impacts the people.

“After this, approvals must comply with the guidelines set so as to not happen again,” he said after the launch of the Kelantan Flood Disaster Clean-up Assistance Mission today.

In relation to that, Mohamed Azmin said that a committee will be formed to ensure that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed.

“We are making the event a lesson. This means that it includes slopes, drainage and water retention ponds, which must be taken seriously.

“We also want 30 percent of the state’s forest reserves to be maintained. The state government has asked legal counsel to take decisive action for incidents of trespassing, like what happened in Cameron Highlands,” he said.
