SHAH ALAM, 11 Mar: The new PAS Spiritual Leader, Datuk Dr Haron Din, is believed to be able to continue the work of the late Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat well.
The Selangor PAS Commissioner, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that the guidance and advice of the Spiritual Leader is important in ensuring that the party’s struggle remains on the path of Islam.
“To remain relevant, PAS policies must be clear, especially in the country’s political environment that is increasingly challenging.
“I also hope Datuk Dr Haron Din can be assertive like Tok Guru Nik Aziz,” he told Selangor Kini.
Prior to that, Astro Awani reported that the PAS Majlis Syura Ulama (MSU) unanimously appointed Haron Din as the party’s Spiritual Leader at a meeting on March 8.
The meeting also decided for the Chief Minister of Kelantan, Datuk Ahmad Yacob, to be the PAS Deputy Spiritual Leader.
The PAS constitution also states that the Spiritual Leader can be selected by 15 MSU members for a period of five years.
The position of the Spiritual Leader is not bound by terms such as the Central PAS Committee.
