CM: Check agreement first before signing

SHAH ALAM, 7 Apr: The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, cynically advised the Federal Government to review any agreement to be signed before agreeing to sign it.

Referring to the Selangor Water Restructuring Master Agreement that was signed by Putrajaya and the Selangor Government, he said that the weaknesses of the central government in providing the draft of the agreement was so evident to a point where water assets owned by them were allowed to be ‘robbed’.

He said that the role of the Attorney General, who should have examined the draft of the agreement, is also being disputed because it caused the water assets to be ‘hocked’

“What is the role of the Attorney General? If lawyers do not know what can be defended by the central government, then the Attorney General should resign.

“If this is the Attorney General that we have, even the country can be sold or pawned because of failure to examine an agreement.

“In any agreement, before signing, it should be checked first,” he said during the winding-up session at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session today.

Elaborating, Mohamed Azmin (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa) said that the former Chief Minister took a long time to get to this stage (water agreement) but the central government failed to take the opportunities that exist by referring to the Attorney General to obtain advice and opinion.

“Port Klang took five years to reach this stage, why could the central government not refer to the Federal Land Commission and the Attorney General for five years?

“If 32 meetings have been held, why was the Attorney General and Federal Land Commissioner not called to the meeting? Sleeping?” he asked.
