KLANG, 30 May: The state government intends to uplift archery as a main event at the national level because it has great potential to be developed.
The Sri Muda Assemblyman, Shuhaimi Shafiei, said that the state government has no political constraints in the effort that archery is developed, including other social activities.
“Archery has a huge potential to be uplifted as one of Selangor’s core sports. The state government will provide as much assistance as it can to provide a small infrastructure to help further develop archery.
“As the old adage says ‘tak cukup nyiru, padang bola kami tadahkan’. In addition, the state government also aims to produce world-class Selangor archers to represent Malaysia in the future,” he said.
He said this during the opening of the 1Family1Archer programme organised by the Alpha Brothers Archery Club (Abac) today.
In relation to that, he said that the Sri Muda constituency has allocated RM9,000 to Abac for the success of programmes they run until the end of the year.
Shuhaimi also proposed for Abac to submit any proposal to collaborate with the Selangor Youth Council to bring it up to the international level.
He said that the state government also provides large provisions for youth and sports development in Selangor.
“The three sports that are being carried out at the district level involving 56 constituencies are football, basketball and netball. Participants will represent the constituencies at national competitions after the Aidilfitri,” he said.
