The Selangor Food Mega Festival will serve over 50 exotic & urban dishes

SHAH ALAM, 30 May: There will be over 50 menu items of traditional, exotic and urban dishes served during the Selangor Food Mega Festival 2015 (SFMF) which kicks off today, involving the participation of 130 food operators.

The Exco for Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, said that the two-day festival is able to stimulate the state’s economy and tourism, in addition to being a place for food lovers to try various dishes.

“It is not only a food entrepreneurial programme, but it also combines social and tourism activities.

“This festival is also open to the Hijrah programme participants to promote sales products with a target of 35,000 visitors,” he said.

He said this after launching the festival, which was also attended by the General Manager of Tourism Selangor, Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din, at Dataran Merdeka.

Prior to this, Amirudin also took part in a cooking demonstration with celebrity chef, Karl Shafek, who prepared ayam masak merah.

SFMF also features urban cuisine such as grilled burgers, grilled beef ribs and cheese bananas, in addition to Kajang satay, Klang cendol, rojak, nasi ambeng, the traditional food of Selangorians.

Some food trucks also took part, including Big Hug Burger and Coffee Cab.

Based on a relaxed and green concept, visitors can eat at special dining areas at the middle of the field which has tables and chairs made of pallet wood, in addition to being entertained with special performances from local artists, including a cooking demonstration by celebrity chefs.

“The organisation also aims to revive Shah Alam, in addition to realising this city as a city of art, as well as the initiative to further boost the tourism calendar in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2015,” he said.
