CM: Langat 2 Only After Water Industry Restructuring

SHAH ALAM, 14 Dec: Langat 2 project will be implemented only after the Federal Government agrees for the Selangor State Government to restructure the water industry.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that so far, the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) has yet to give any feedback regarding the letter sent by the State Government.

“I am still waiting for feedback regarding the letter and if the Federal Government agrees to restructure the water (industry), we can have further discussions,” he told reporters after launching the 2012 Selangor Agro Fest (SAF 2012) which was held at the Shah Alam Stadium Malawati, here.

Prior to this, the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui said that the construction of the Langat 2 project has been delayed 29 months compared to the original schedule due to the refusal of the Selangor State Government in cooperating with the Federal Government on the project.

He claimed, however, that the Federal Government will proceed with the project and is expected to begin in the middle of next year.

Prior to this, the State Government had repeatedly stated their stand in not allowing the Federal Government to continue the Langat 2 project unless they restructure the water industry in Sleangor.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, had directed the Attorney General to study ways to continue the project without Selangor’s approval.
