SHAH ALAM, 26 Mar: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim denied allegations made by Sarawak Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, that he masterminded the video by international NGO, Global Witness, in exposing Taib and his family’s timber licence corruption.

Anwar, who is also the Opposition Leader, claimed to be a victim of defamation recently because authority figures who have taken land, shares and timber have conspired to use the media to attack him.

“This is standard practice, all problems in Malaysia, including the defeat of Manchester United to Real Madrid, it is also my fault because the referee is Turkish,” he insinuated when interviewed by Radio Free Malaysia (RFM) last night.

He said that Tai will have to answer the truth behind the video instead of using the media to attack him.

“I was not involved. But the issue is not who is involved (distribution of the video), Global Witness’ coverage has truth behind it and what is Tan Sri Taib or the Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) Government capable of answering,” said the PKR De Facto Leader.

Recently, Taib accused Anwar of being the mastermind behind the spread of the video and claims that Anwar is not qualified to govern the country because he often brings in outsiders to interfere in political discourse in this country.

Umno-BN has also accused Anwar of being an agent for the Jews, the US, Turkey, India and has also been implicated as a Sulu agent during the bloody events in Lahad Datu.

In addition, Anwar stressed that an immediate investigation should be carried out against Taib and his family following the distribution of the video.

“Is it not true that land was confiscated? If it not true that some great figures including their families have enriched themselves using power and betraying the trust of the people?

“These are questions that should be answered if it is true that billions of ringgit were involved and where is the money, who gave mandate to leaders of the country to take the people’s land. The state land became the property of their families,” he said.

RFM is a joint venture radio station with Radio Free Sarawak (RFS) at frequency 1.359kHz that commenced broadcasting last night by broadcasting the interview with Anwar and other Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders.
