KUALA LUMPUR, June 13: The late N Dharmendran’s wife, Marry Maria Susay filed a disciplinary complaint against the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Ku Chin Wah for issuing a false statement on the death of her husband.

In a press conference on May 22, Chin Wah stated that on the night of 21 May, Dharmendran complained of chest pain and he was experiencing shortness of breath while being detained at the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters.

The deceased was then taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital but died on arrival at the hospital.

However, according to the autopsy report from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital pathology expert, Dharmendran died from being beaten by blunt and hard objects.

“Why is he (Ku Chin Wah) still protecting and issuing false statements to the media and the public?” asked Marry after issuing the complaint at the Federal Police Headquarters here at Bukit Aman.

The report of the complaint was received by ASP Ramia Kanapathi at the Records Unit of the Inspector-General Complaints (Discipline) of Bukit Aman.

Meanwhile, the family’s attorney, Sivamalar Genaphaty stressed that they still urge for the establishment of an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) and reject the establishment of a special investigation team as announced by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC).

“This matter should be a lesson to all police officers. After this, we do not want any more incidents of custodial deaths. Ku Chin Wah should be investigated,” he said.

Dharmendran was reportedly detained by the police after being involved in a shooting incident on 11 May at Bandar Tun Razak.

His wife and parents only knew about the arrest on MAy 19 and visited Dharmendran while he was in police custody.

He should have been released on bail on 21 May; however Marry received a call saying that Dharmendran had already died.
