KUALA LUMPUR, July 9: PAS is confident of victory in the Kuala Besut By-Elections which will be held on 24 July.

PAS Vice-President, Datuk Husam Musa said that although Umno-BN won the Kuala Besut State Legislative Assembly seat with a simple majority in the 13th General Election (GE-13), PAS still has a chance to conquer the seat.

“We still have a chance to win. We already have a candidate, after seeing the BN candidate. Then can we know the percentage of winning,” he said in a press statement here.

Husam also describes the statement by Besut Umno Head, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh who said that Umno will defend the win with a bigger majority as an ‘arrogant’ statement.

“Although the majority which BN won was large and legitimate, however PKR has a heavy task.

“I am confident that people can judge it as a whole. If PAS wins, the people’s agenda can be designed comprehensively,” he said.

Husam, who is also the Elections Director, said that the candidate who will be contesting in the election will be announced tonight by the PAS President, Datuk Seri Hadi Awang.

In GE-13, Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar from Umno-BN won the Kuala Besut seat with a majority of 2,434 votes.
