KUALA LUMPUR, July 15: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) states will work together with the Federal Government for the success of the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY2014) programme.

Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng said that the collaboration is to promote and for the progress of the tourism field in the country.

“We express our support in this cooperation and thank the Minister of Tourism, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.

“This is a national interest in promoting tourism everywhere in Malaysia, regardless if it is Penang, Selangor or Kelantan,” he said in a press conference in Parliament today.

Guan Eng also hopes that the ministry will channel more funds for tourism at the state level.

During the same press conference, Nazri said that the Ministry of Tourism requires the cooperation of all states in Malaysia for the success of the VMY2014.

According to him, the cooperation of all key states, including those governed by PR, is important to achieve the target number of tourists.

“We will not be anarchic towards Kelantan, Penang and Selangor because without their cooperation, the set target will not be achieved,” he said.

He said that a special body has been created at the state level to manage and monitor the tourism project.
