Anwar: Enhance Safety; Avoid Repeating Bus Tragedy that Killed 37 Victims

SHAH ALAM, August 22: The government and responsible parties have been urged to increase security efforts so that the tragic accident where a bus fell into a ravine killing 37 people can be avoided in future.

PKR De Facto Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his media statement said that he hopes that those injured in the accident will recover soon.

“Our hearts go out to the relatives and loved ones of those who perished in this terrible tragedy,” said Anwar.

A total of 37 people were killed in what is the worst bus crash in the country, when the bus carrying 53 passengers plunged 60 metres into the ravine at KM3.6 Jalan Genting Highlands yesterday.

The incident also injured 16 people, 14 of which are reported to be in critical condition.

Those injured are now being treated at the Selayang Hospital (eight), the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) (five), the Sungai Buloh Hospital (two) and the Bentong Hospital (one).

The mishap occurred around 2.45pm when the bus, which was ferrying 53 passengers, negotiated a steep downhill stretch from the top of Genting Highlands, heading towards the federal capital.
