SHAH ALAM, August 3: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah reminded the people to be wary of the spread of heresy which deviates far from true Islamic teachings.

The Sultan said that this is because teachings that confuse the people can bring about chaos if it is not checked, like how the Shia teachings are clearly different from the Al Sunnah Wal Jamaah which has been practiced since before.

“I find that the Shia teachings are being spread in Selangor by irresponsible people.

“I am concerned that this phenomenon will become a cancer spreading in silence and it will likely result in Selangor and Malaysia suffering the same fate as what is happening in several Muslim countries abroad,” he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin said this in the Opening Ceremony of the Taman Subang Perdana Mosque in conjunction with the Iftar with the People and the Aidilfitri Contributions Presentation in Subang Perdana yesterday.

He is also concerned about it because he does not want the occurrence of disputes and quarrels to happen among Muslims in Selangor.

“Therefore, I consent for the Imams, council members of the mosque and Islamic scholars to continue to provide proper education to the people about the importance of preserving the teachings of Al Sunnah Wal Jamaah so that Muslims in Selangor will always be on the right path and do not fall to heresy.

“I consent for all types of approach to be used for educational purposes, including the use of electronic media and it should include all levels of age and background of the people,” he said.

The Sultan of Selangor also congratulated the people of Selangor for carrying out the fasting ritual and he wished a Happy Aidilfitri to Muslims of Selangor.

Before the officiating of the mosque, the Sultan of Selangor consented to present contributions to 250 poor and needy asnaf, 100 converts and 197 orphans for the Petaling district at the event and also received business zakat contributions from the Deputy President II or KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Yusof Ismail, amounting to RM400,000.

Also present was the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department Director (Jais), Datuk Marzuki Hussin and several State Government Executive Councillors.

The Taman Subang Perdana Mosque which was originally called the Al-Hikjrah Surau in 1996 was rebuilt and completed in August 2008 at a cost of RM3.6 million, and can accommodate 1,400 people.
