Single Mother Cried when Receiving Jom Shopping Raya Assistance

BATU CAVES, August 1: Participants of the Jom Shopping (Let’s Go Shopping) Raya Assistance Programme praised the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat State Government for caring about the people as the Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr) celebrations come about.

For them, the RM100 assistance could ease the burden of the less fortunate as they make preparations to celebrate Aidilfitri.

A single mother, Norbaya Ahmad, 63, from Kampung Kerdas 5 who is suffering from breast cancer since 13 years ago is grateful for this assistance.

“Alhamdullilah, although the assistance is only RM100, but it would help me prepare to celebrate Aidilfitri this time, as I can no longer work, I have no source of income, my husband has passed away and I have no children.

“Fortunately we have a concerned State Government, thank you,” said Norbaya when met by TVSelangor in the programme which was held here at the Batu Caves Giant Supermarket today.

At this time, Norbaya only relies on monthly assistance from the Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) which gives her RM300 a month for her living expenses.

“Previously, I was working as a security guard, but I was stopped because of my old age and my body was too weakly,” said Radiah Hassan, 62, from Batu 10, Gombak Utara, when met at the same programme.

However, according to Radiah, in addition to receiving assistance from JKM, she is also receiving assistance from the Selangor Zakat Board.

Meanwhile, Bikiro Ellayali Uda Mat Deris, 61, said that programmes such as this should continue to help the less fortunate.

“Thanks to the current Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim. It looks like he and the State Government are earnestly helping the people in this state in various ways,” said Bikiro Ellayali who has to support his child who is still studying at the Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic in Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru.

At this time, he supports his family while working as a security guard with an income of about RM1,000 per month.

Earlier, the Gombak Setia Assemblyman, Hasbullah Ridzwan said that the selection for participants of the programme was made by Village Heads, Chairmen of Residents Associations and Council Members.

“As community leaders, they know who are those in need of help such as single mothers, senior citizens and the less fortunate,” said Hasbullah when officiating the two day programme for the Gombak Setia State Legislative Assembly.

According to Hasbullah 500 participants were selected to participate in the Raya Assistance Jom Shopping Programme which was held yesterday and today for the Gombak Setia State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
