SHAH ALAM, 18 September: “As long as I live, as long as I am Commissioner, I will not entertain this matter (cooperation between PAS and Umno)”, said the Selangor PAS Commissioner, Dr Abdul Rani Osman.

He said that Umno-BN will only reach out to be nice when they are in a state of ‘drowning’ and will only try to get help for the political survival.

He said that Umno-BN has to change the policies they champion if they really want to work together with PAS in the matter of unifying Muslims and Malay community.

“Based on experience, if they reach out, they are drowning. They (Umno-BN) is in crisis. Experience has taught us,” he said.

Media reports today featured a statement by the Umno Deputy President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who claimed that cooperation between PAS and Umno to unite the Malay community and Muslims if not impossible.

Speaking at a press conference, Abdul Rani said that the matter has been played repeatedly but Umno-BN does not demonstrate seriousness. Instead, they have created many obstacles such as the Selangor water issue.

The Selangor PAS Information Chief, Saari Sungib said that many of Umno’s policies are unjust and disagreed by PAS, causing cooperation to be difficult.

“We see that currently there are efforts to restore the ISA. This is a cruel Act. Many PAS leaders have been punished by using the Act.

“If there are still cruel policies, how can we cooperate? The Mursyidul Am always stresses – to cooperate, Umno must change to Islam,” said the former ISA detainee.
