Jais Seized Documents Related to the Spread of Shi’ism in Sri Gombak

GOMBAK, 28 Sept: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) raided a premises here at Pusat Bandar Sri Gombak yesterday which is believed to be spreading teachings of Shi’ism and seized various documents pertaining to the faith.

During the operation which took place at about 11.30pm, Jais enforcement officers opened the door grill of the shophouse, which is used as a ‘surau’, using steel cutters.

Jais Assistant Director of Enforcement, Mohd Shahrom Maarof said, the raid was made based on intelligence and complaints from the public before attaining a search warrant from the Petaling Syariah Subordinate Court.

“We seized several books, posters and others on Shi’ism, including work papers made at the University of Malaya (UM).

“They are believed to be holding a ‘post-mortem’ on the work papers and the faith is being spread among the students,” he told reporters after the operation.

No arrests were made in the operation which was participated by 23 officers including the Jaus enforcer.

Shi’ism has been fatwaed by the Selangor Mufti Department since 1998.

Mohd Shahrom said, investigations are being made in accordance with Section 12C, which is the contempt of religious authority (disobeying a direction from the Selangor Mufti Department) and Section 7 of the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment.

“We handed over a copy of the notice to the premises party on the seized material and asked them to come forward to testify,” he said.
