SUBANG JAYA 19 Sept: The police have yet to take action in reports of violence and safety threats by Barisan Nasional supporters, said the PKR candidate for the Tapah Parliament in the 13th General Election (GE-13), Vasantha Kumar.

The first witness on the second day of the People’s Tribunal said that his campaign aide, K Murugan, is believed to have been killed because he was linked to the GE-13 campaign process.

“Murugan was killed cruelly. His hands and feet were tied with metal, and he had a head injury,” he said.

Before the incident, he said that Murugan received a call from a known individual, and an unknown individual ordered him to cease from being a PKR campaign worker.

“Murugan stated that he received death threats from BN supporters,” he said.

Murugan was reported missing on 1 May and his body was found floating in a mine three days later at a lake in Batu Gajah, Perak.

Vasantha also gave a statement regarding the passing out of RM100 vouchers given by MIC to the general public in Tapah during the campaign period.

At the tribunal, Vasantha submitted evidence of plastic bags used by BN to give good to voters which is an offence in the GE-13 campaign.

“Indigenous voters were also blocked from Rela members from voting and we were blocked from campaigning in the village,” he told the Tribunal.

In addition, he stated that the early voting ballot boxes were transferred from the Tapah police station on 2 May which should have been counted on 5 May.

About 200 people attended the tribunal at the Throne Room at the Empire Hotel in Subang Jaya from 9 am to 5pm.

On the first day yesterday, seven witnessed testified to the People’s Tribunal which involved two GE-13 candidates and two volunteers of the Permantau NGO.

Also bearing witness was an election agent, an election expert and someone whose name appeared on the electoral roll without his knowledge.

Professor Gurdial Singh Nijar from the University of Malaya (UM) was the head of the legal team and presented the case to the tribunal.
