SHAH ALAM Sept 1st: The proposal for an organised roundtable talks between BN and the People’s Coalition (PKR) to resolve issues of the common people should be extended to state level, said Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

He said all Chairmen of PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) should invite their Chief Ministers to hold a roundtable immediately.

“This discussion should not stop at Parliamentary or Federal Government stage alone, but it should also be done at state-level,” he told TV Selangor today.

Previously, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had proposed for a roundtable between the government and the Opposition to talk on issues related to race and religion, the economy, rising crime rates, and governance.

The Opposition leader, however, insisted that it should only be a discussion that focuses on people’s welfare, and not about forming a united government as bandied by the media.

Shamsul is bewildered by the behavior of BN leaders that seemed cynical of the proposed roundtable with PKR as they were the ones who had enthused to organise one in the beginning.

The Member of Parliament for Bukit Katil said BN leaders should take their suggestion seriously if they truly uphold the interest of the people.

“All allegations about PKR getting desperate are untrue because GE13 had shown that we could earn 51% of of votes whilst BN collected 47%,” he said.

Shamsul said Dato’ Seri Najib Razak should be more open to discussions because the talks could benefit everyone.

Through these talks, he said economic, crime, education and socio-political problems can be addressed carefully and wisely.
