SHAH ALAM, 19 Dec: A total of 52 Chinese vernacular schools (SJKC) across Selangor received educational assistance amounting to RM1.33 million.

This is the second phase of financial assistance for 2013 through the Selangor Government’s policy, which allocates RM4 million to each eligible SJKCs in the state.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Education, Higher Learning and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah, said that the State Government has made education the main agenda of its administration.

“Education is the main agenda of the State Government. The State Government practices ‘accountability’ and all provisions should be used as best possible. If the school roof needs repairs, use it well,” she said.

The contribution was presented by Dr Halimah at the foyer of the State Government Secretary (SUK) Building today. Also present were some Selangor Excos, Assemblymen and representatives of SJKCs.

Throughout this year, a total of 108 SJKCs received the assistance, including during the first phase which was completed before May this year.

Apart from SJKCs, the State Government has also allocated RM4 million to Tamil vernacular schools (SJKT) and RM6 million to the People’s Religious Schools (SAR) since 2009.

Representatives of SJKCs were grateful for the continuous contribution.

The representative of SJKC Sin Ming Semenyih, Tean Khh Keng, 61, expressed gratitude to the State Government for not neglecting Chinese vernacular schools.

“This assistance will be used to repair some infrastructural damages in my school,” he said.

Lim Leong Cheok, 44, from SJKC Kampung Baru Ampang, hopes that more assistance will be given in the future because not all SJKCs have good financial situations.

“I noticed that the State Government is fair to all. In future, I hope that more needed specific attention is given to SJKCs,” said Lim.
