SHAH ALAM, 2 Dec: The PKR Chairman of the People’s Complaints Bureau, S Manikavasagam, was deplored with the actions of a multinational conglomerate which used about 150 thugs and police officers to chase off 86 employees of the Bukit Rajah Estate here on 26 October.

S Manikavasagam said that the move to demolish 20 of the employees’ homes violates the agreement made between residents and the company, which previously promised to build other homes for them before demolition work is carried out.

“The company promised to complete homes in an area not too far from here in three year, however, until now, the homes have yet to be completed, involving an agreement in 2009.

“Unfortunately, the company violated the agreement by sending the police and thugs who used force and violently chased residents, consisting of employees of the Oil Mill Division, out of their homes.

“Male police officers also acted violently against women residents and this is an offence because it does not comply with proper procedures,” he said.

Manikavasagam said that any action or arrest of women should be done by women police officers.

He said that the victim, M Alagamah, will lodge a police report regarding the violence that violates women’s rights.

Apart from police officers, Manikavasagam claimed that a group which is said to be ‘licensed gangsters’ also acted to chase the residents before demolition was carried out.

Prior to this, 38 employees of Main Division suffered the same fate when they were ordered to move to make way for the company’s project in 2009.

However, until now, the employees are still renting homes because the company failed to build homes as promised by them.
