Selangor Maintains Excellent Performance in Global Economic Slowdown

PUTRAJAYA, 2 Dec: Selangor has achieved an economic performance which is to be proud of despite countries in Europe and the United States continue to face global economic slowdown.

The success is driven by the ability of the state in providing a healthy investment climate, thus being able to attract domestic and foreign investors to invest.

The Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that Selangor still remains as as state that have the highest number of investment projects in Malaysia until June.

Abdul Khalid said that he hopes that the state’s healthy economic climate will attract investors from China and other foreign countries to invest in the state.

“In 2012 and 2013, we recorded a strong performance in terms of domestic and repeated investment. While I understand that the global economic climate is difficult, I hope to attract more foreign investment.

“The report by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) also shows that Selangor managed to attract 97 investment projects, the highest in Malaysia, until June,” he said at a Gala Dinner of the Malaysia-China Entrepreneur Conference 2013 at the Marriott Hotel here last night.

He said that the state government has also shown commitment in attracting foreign investors by taking steps to hold trade missions to several countries that have huge potential to invest in Selangor.

“We also plan to intensify trade and investment missions to countries abroad as proved in the visit to Europe, China, Japan and Korea over the past few months,” he said.

Abdul Khalid also hopes that investors in China will take the opportunity to invest in Selangor when touching on the two-way relations between Malaysia and China which was created 39 years ago.
