SHAH ALAM, 4 Feb: The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli, explained the presence of Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to contest in Selangor is important to prevent Barisan Nasional (BN) from using the emergency situation to seize the state.

He said that it is another preparation and also a lesson learned from what happened in Kelantan in 1977, when BN used the same issue to seize the power of the state government from PAS.

“We do not rule out the possibility of how the issue of race and religion issue is played. Previously, Umno did it in Kelantan.

“Umno used the emergency powers to suspend the state government and it has happened before,” he said in a press statement at the PKR Headquarters today.

Rafizi said that if the issue of religion is used every week, especially involving sensitive statements, it will invite a range of possibilities, including the intervention from the Selangor Umno in the matter.
