Exco: Be Prudent in Using Water, Avoid Wastage

SHAH ALAM, 28 Feb: With the water levels in several dams being at a critical point at the moment, residents have been asked to not waste any water.

The Exco in charge of Entrepreneur Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that in the current situation the people must be wise in using water so that the supply will last.

She said that they need to avoid from using water for less important things and those that can be postponed.

“If there are household chores such as washing vehicles, motorcycles and so on, which can wait, we shall wait then.

“These things are less important compared with the need to clean ourselves, perform ablution and cooking,” she told Selangor Kini today.

Earlier, the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, announced the water scheduling programme across Selangor to ensure continuous water supply.

Elaborating, Daroyah also advised the public to increase drinking boiled water to avoid health problems.

“I also hope that no open burning is done in the present situation because it can adversely affect our health.

“Not only that, it can also cause haze and cause pollution to our air quality,” he added.

This morning, the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) announced that Water Rationing Plan in several areas in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor, due to reduced supply of treated water.

The implementation of scheduled water rationing is to begin on 2 March and 31 March and this period is subject to revision from time to time.
