Anwar Disappointed that Zaharie is Accused of being the Reason why the Aircraft has Disappeared

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 Mar: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is disappointed about certain parties attempt to claim that the pilot of MH370, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, is involved in hijacking the aircraft, which has been missing since 8 March, because he was disappointed by the court’s decision.

Anwar, in a press conference at the Parliament lobby today, said that he does not deny ever meeting Zaharie during gatherings organised by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), but stressed that he does not know him well.

He said that it is unfair to punish and portray a negative image of Zaharie, especially since investigations of the case is not yet finished.

“I am disappointed with the way some Umno factions are trying to link bad things to the pilot and now, in addition, one of my in-laws has family ties with Zaharie.

“I do not deny ever meeting him at PKR events and he is close to R Sivarasa, but other than that, there is no relationship.

“We have to give space and respect the rights of his family in this difficult situation by praying and not making negative comments or judging before investigations are over,” he said.

Yesterday, a UK tabloid, the Daily Mail, reported that Zaharie is a ‘political fanatic’ and a vocal political activist”.

The Daily mail also reported that Zaharie attended Anwar’s sodomy trial a few hours before flying the unfortunate aircraft.

At the same time, Anwar, who is also the KR de facto leader, also criticised the way the Malaysian government is handling the missing aircraft, which is deemed prosaic to a point of being disputed by other countries.

He said that he was surprised at how the advanced technologies owned by Malaysia have failed to be used to track the aircraft.

“What is clear is the handling of this case by the Prime Minister; being so prosaic that many countries doubt our ability.

“The handling of the case, the management, the airspace and the safety issue, as well as the missing passports, needs to be explained by the government,” he said.
