Federal Government Urged to Upgrade Besraya Expressway to Address Congestion

SERDANG, 14 mar: The Public Works Ministry has been urged to prepare proposals to upgrade the Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA) which links Kuala Lumpur to the intersection of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) due to the unusual congestion experienced by users.

The Executive Councillor in charge of New Village Development, Ean Yong Hian Wah, said that users of the 16 kilometre (km) expressway are forced to face congestion almost daily, especially during peak hours from 5pm to 8pm.

The Assemblyman for Seri Kembangan also said that most of the users who are heading to Balakong and Seri Kembangan are also forced to use the route because there are no other alternatives.

“The Besraya Expressway heading towards Balakong is very congested and many complaints have been brought up by residents, therefore, I ask the Public Works Ministry to provide a proposal to upgrade this expressway.

“Users have no other alternatives, especially heading towards Balakong. Perhaps the government could consider appropriate measures to solve this problem,” he said.

At the same time, Ean Yong also urged the government to upgrade the Serdang commuter station as it is too small and is unable to accommodate the high number of passengers.

He said that the upgrading process, including the bridge or a partially covered pedestrian walkway needs to be repaired, and lights have to be installed for the safety of passengers especially at night.

“Many facilities need to be repaired at this station because it cannot accommodate the high number of users, especially students and workers who use public transportation to return home or to go to work,” he said.
