Official Results: PKR Obtains Majority of 5,379 Votes

KAJANG, 23 Mar: The Election Commission (EC) announced that the PKR candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, won the seat in the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election by defeating the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate with the official results of: PKR: 16,741 votes and BN: 11,362 votes.

The Kajang DUN by-election saw PKR continuing to defend the seat which was previously won with a majority of 6,824 votes.

The results shows that the percentage of support for PKR increased from 56.8 percent in the 13th General Election (GE13) to 59.7 percent in the Kajang DUN by-election, although the percentage that went out to vote reduced to 72 percent compared to 88 percent in the last GE13.

Dr Wan Azizah, who received 16,741 votes, defeated the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, who earned 11,362 votes.

The percentage of those who came out to cast their ballots today was 72 percent or 28,314. Spoiled votes: 176.

The Kajang DUN seat became vacant in the sudden resignation of its incumbent, Lee Chin Cheh, from PKR on 27 January.

Lee won the seat in the 13th General Election in May last year with a majority of 6,824 votes in a six-cornered clash involving BN, Berjasa and three independent candidates.

The decision was announced by the Election Management Officer, Datuk Hassan Nawawi.
