CM: BSM Proposed to Write Letter to AG to Ask for Bibles to be Returned

SHAH ALAM, 3 Apr: The State Government has proposed for the Bibles Society of Malaysia (BSM) to write a letter to the Attorney-General to ask for 321 copies of Bibles in the Malay language and in Ibanese taken by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to be returned.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that this proposal was decided by the state government during the Executive Councillors meeting that took place here at the State Government Secretary (SUK) Building today.

“We have decided for BSM to write to the Attorney-General to ask for the Bibles to be returned.

“We have proposed this move because we know it is better for them to write to show their desire to reclaim the document,” he briefly said.

Prior to this, JAIS seized 321 Bible copies, while the chairman and the association’s office manager were taken to the Damansara Utama Police Station for their statement.

The action is believed to be related to the use of the word ‘Allah; in the Malay language and Ibanase Bibles imported from Indonesia by the association.
