CM: KIDEX Expressway built on professional principles in the interest of the people

SHAH ALAM, 21 May: The agreement in principle on the proposed construction of the Damansara-Kinrara Expressway (KIDEX) by the State Government is done professionally in the interest of the public, especially the people of Selangor.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the proposal construction of KIDEX also meets the State Government development plan to improve the public transportation system and alleviate traffic congestion.

He said that the State Government is ready to consider and accept any suggestions to improve the existing system, despite it coming from the Federal Government, if it benefits the people.

“We welcome proposals to solve this problem (traffic congestion), especially since the State Government does not have sufficient financial capacity to take over the construction of roads.

“It is unprofessional for us to not support the execution of KIDEX only because it is being developed by the Federal Government.

“We agreed because the Federal Government is responsible towards the people of Selangor, the same as they are responsible to people in other states.

“If we keep objecting, it would be unfair to the people of Selangor,” he said after chairing the Executive Council Meeting today.

The KIDEX expressway is expected to complete by 2020 at a cost of RM2.2 billion, and will link the Demansara-NKVE junction north of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) to Bandar Kinrara in the south.

Prior to this, some Assemblymen and residents in the area of Petaling Jaya expressed their objections against the 14-kilometre elevated expressway project.

Commenting on the objection, Abdul Khalid said that the State Government welcomes all views presented and will instruct the developer to take into account the views and objections of residents against the proposed construction.

“We have explained to not only the residents of Petaling Jaya, but also to those in Subang Jaya and Puchong, and they have no problem,” he said.
