State Government Gives MTUC Land to Build Training Centre

SHAH ALAM, 1 May: The State Government is ready to allot a piece of land in Selangor to the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) to build their own training

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that this new decision will be discussed further with the Selangor Land and Mines Office (LMO) to identify a suitable location.

He said that the consent was given in accordance with the State Government’s mission to develop human capital and high-skilled workers.

“The State Government promises to find a piece of land for the MTUC workers’ skills centre.

“I think that the land given will be approximately three acres, and is certainly not in Petaling Jaya,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after attending the assembly in conjunction with Labour Day, organised by MTUC at the Amcorp Mall East Field, and was also attended by the Executive Councillor Dr Halimah Ali.

Abdul Khalid said that the State Government will contribute RM30,000 for the assembly programme, which was attended by about 1,000 participants.

Earlier, the MTUC President, Mohd Khalid Atan, during his speech, asked if the State Government can provide land to build a training and skills centre for workers.

“Today in history, for a leader like the Chief Minister to give consent to provide land to MTUC, this has never happened before.

“We are proud to have a Chief Minister who is concerned with the problems of workers and people like him.

“He clearly has high commitment, and despite being unhealthy today, he still managed to come here. Thank you,” said Khalid Atan.
