SHAH ALAM, 27 June: A total of 240 families from 24 Resident Representative Council Zones (MPP) received assistance from the Shah Alam City Council (MPSA), in conjunction with the upcoming Ramadan al-Mubarak celebration.

The Mayor of Shah Alam, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan, said that this programme aims to alleviate the burden of the less fortunate in preparing for the Ramadan month.

He said that it is also a platform for local authorities to approach the group closer and provide the assistance needed.

“The contribution we are providing is in the form of groceries and food to help these poor families, in addition to providing some cash assistance to them.

“We started this programme in 2009, but at the time there were only 120 families chosen. But this year, we have doubled it,” he said when attending the Ramadan Contribution Presentation Ceremony 2014 around Shah Alam.

Mohd Jaafar distributed the assistance around the areas of Kampung Lombong, Jalan Kebun in Section 29, while the Deputy Mayor, Mohtar Hani, distributed the donations around Taman Alam Megah in Section 27.

Also present during the programme were Council Members, Department Directors and staff from the MBSA Department of Corporate and Community Development.

Meanwhile, a recipient, Hamzah Sairi, 66, expressed his gratitude for MBSA’s concern by providing him assistance to celebrate the upcoming Ramadan months together.

He was diagnosed with kidney failure since last year and was no longer able to work due to his poor health and he only expects assistance from those willing to donate.

“I am not feeling well and I need dialysis treatment, so my body is weak and I am unable to work.

“This is the first time I received assistance from MBSA, so I am overwhelmed and thank you so much so considering senior citizens like me,” he said.
