KLANG, 19 June: The former Executive Councillor of Caring Government, Dr Xavier Jayakumar, agreed with the State Government’s move to use the mine water alternative source to supply water.

He said that at the same time, the State Government should give the people the confidence through the disclosure of research regarding the quality of the water source.

Xavier said that there have been disputes from many parties and the disclosure of results from studies.

“If necessary and there is a water supply problem, we can use mine water. But, I ask for the State Government to provide information and disclose the results of the studies.

“I also agree with this alternative measure,” he said when met after his visit to the flood mitigation project site today.

Previously, the move was disputed by the Member of Parliament for Klang, Charles Santiago.

Elaborating, Xavier said that the MP should discuss with the departments and parties involved regarding the issue.

He said that this is because the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Energy and Water also agree with this move.

“In fact, the proposal to use this alternative source does not affect consumers and is safe for use. Therefore, he should discuss with the parties involved in this issue,” he said.
