SHAH ALAM, 20 June: The University of Selangor (UNISEL), together with the Malaysian Structural Steel Association (MSSA), have joined in cooperation through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in promoting the use of steel among students, especially in Civil Engineering.

The UNISEL Head of Corporate Communications, Hasril Abu Hassan, said that the MoU is the result of discussions held last August and after the faculty of engineering received information from MSSA.

He said that this was then discussed at the UNISEL executive meeting until both sides reached an agreement to sign the MoU, thus participating in courses and activities offered by MSSA.

“As one of the higher learning institutions offering engineering programmes, particularly civil engineering, this is a good opportunity to improve the learning and teaching programmes for students,” he said in a press statement.

Hasril said that the involvement of students in competitions organised by MSSA, such as the Open Idea Competition (OIC), will provide them more opportunities to showcase their creativity in the aspect of the structuring of steel in construction.

“UNISEL hopes that this MoU will open up more opportunities for lecturers to participate in courses organised by MSSA and companies in collaboration, either from within or outside the country,” he said.
