SHAH ALAM, 24 July: Selangor’s Malaysian Youth Solidarity (SAMM) congratulates the joint coordinator with SAMM Selangor, Azhar Achil, who was released by the Klang Sessions Court.

The coordinator with SAMM Selangor, Khairool Anyar Al-Megat, said that the court finally declared that he was innocent and was immediately released after almost a year of trial.

He said that the decision should be made a precedent case for all hearings involving the Peaceful Assembly Act.

“Azhar’s release is a win for the people; it proves that peaceful assemblies are allowed under the constitution.

“The people have the right to peacefully assemble at any location without being subject to pre-independence laws,” he said in a press statement.

According to the Peaceful Assembly Act, Azhar was accused of allegedly organising an illegal assembly at Dataran Tonggak, Sungai Besar, in June 2013.

SAMM Selangor also urged all Malaysians to reject the unconstitutional Act.
