Abdul Khalid has the legitimate power of the CM, not a transition period

SHAH ALAM, 14 Aug: Allegations by PKR and DAP that Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is currently only serving as the Chief Minister in a transitional capacity while waiting for a Chief Minister to be appointed is not true.

The Chairman of the Malaysian Election Commission (EC), Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said that this is because Abdul Khalid is still the legitimate Chief Minister who has the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and meets the minimum support of four State Government Executive Council members from PAS.

“There is no such issue. When the Sultan agrees, he is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the state. He is the Chief Minister. In the Selangor Constitution, to administer the State Government, he needs a minimum of four Exco members and a maximum of 10. In the past it was eight, but now he already has four Exco members.

“Changing the Chief Minister is not like changing the General Manager of a company. In the Selangor Constitution, the appointment of the Chief Minister if the absolute right of the Sultan, it cannot be challenged.

He explained that Abdul Khalid’s authority as the Chief Minister and the administration of the State Government can also carry on as usual without limitations or restrictions that typically occur when a State Legislative Assembly or Parliament is dissolved.

“If HRH likes the person because the person can do a good job, he will choose the person.

About the majority support mentioned, it is not the only factor. This has happened in Perlis, Terengganu and Kelantan. This is work that is in vain. If State Elections are forced to be held, it is a waste of money, time and so on,” said Abdul Aziz when contacted by Selangor Kini.

Previously, the former Selangor Exco members from PKR and DAP in a joint press statement set that Abdul Khalid’s function is only in a transitional capacity while waiting for a Chief Minister from Pakatan Rakyat to be appointed.

They also wanted to impose the condition that Abdul Khalid and Exco members cannot make any decisions through a voting process for the purpose of limiting Abdul Khalid’s function as the Chief Minister for them to remain in the State Government Exco.
