Selangor approves RM50 million to build Integrated Science Maahad Tahfiz Schools

SHAH ALAM, 14 Aug: The Selangor Government has approved the additional construction of Integrated Science Maahad Tahfiz Schools in the state with an allocation of RM50 million, said the Executive Councillor in charge of Education, Higher Learning and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali.

In relation to that, she said that a new committee headed by the Executive Councillor in charge of Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlers, Iskandar Abdul Samad, has been formed to ensure the smooth construction of the Integrated Maahad Tahfiz.

“The committee led by the Executive Councillor of Housing is to ensure that the design of the school meets a learning climate that will produce the best human capital,” she said during a press statement after the Executive Council meeting at the State Government Secretariat (SUK) Building.

The Selangor Government is in the process of ensuring that there is at least one Integrated Science Maahad Tahfiz in each district in the state which is being organised by the Selangor Religious Islamic Department (JAIS).

So far, three Maahad Tahfiz Schools have been established in Selangor.

In the meantime, Halimah also informed that the Selangor Government agreed to continue the allocation of RM2 million to the Ting Hwa, Tong Hwa, Chung Hwa and Pin Hwa Independent Chinese Secondary Schools.

She said that the distribution of RM500,000 to each school will be done jointly with the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, on August 23 in Klang.

During the same press conference, she said that a new policy, the Education Exco Award, has been approved where the State Government will give out awards to the best students in educational institutions owned by Selangor.

“For the level of certificate or diploma, RM1,000 will be awarded, while for the Degree level for students of the Selangor Islamic College University (KUIS), the University of Selangor (Unisel) and overseas students under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), RM2,500 will be given,” she said.

In addition, the Exco also agreed to approve an additional allocation for the Selangor State Welfare Department amounting to RM3.4 million for this year.

“It is to cover the expenses where there is a trend of approximately 55 cases per month estimated to be in need of additional provisions,” she said.
