PETALING JAYA, 17 Sept: The State Government does not encourage sponsorship from the private sector on programmes they carry out to avoid the symptom of owing each other to a point of undermining its administration.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that instead the State Government is more comfortable receiving sponsorship from government-linked companies (GLC) or local authorities.

He said that this approach is consistent with the desires of most of the programmes organised, usually for the purpose of promoting and not to profit from it.

“We do no encourage the private sector because we do not want them to have any bearing on the administration that we perform in this state.

“Therefore, we ask our friends to meet this time to co-finance and promote the sport of golf,” he said during a press conference at the Seri Selangor Golf Club here, yesterday.

Earlier, he carried out the prize giving ceremony to the winners of the Pro-Am Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters 2014 and the Mock-Cheque Reception from sponsors.

Also present was the Selangor State Secretary, Datuk Khusrin Munawi, and the Chairman of Worldwide Holdings, Datuk Noordin Sulaiman.

Among those who contributed include Worldwide Holdings which sponsored RM1.5 million, the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) with RM500,000, Permmodalan Negeri Selangor (PNSB) with RM200,000, Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) and Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) with RM50,000 respectively.

Meanwhile, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) each sponsored RM100,000.

Entering its eight year of the championships being held, this tournament also featured world-class golf players including David Lipsky, Pariya Junhasavasdikul, Aniraban Lahiri and local top players Nicholas Fung, Danny Chia and Airil Rizman.
