MBPJ organises the Selangor Lantern Festival on September 13

PETALING JAYA, 4 Sept: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), in cooperation with Tourism Selangor and Chempaka Buddhist Lodge, will organise the Selangor Lantern Festival in conjunction with the Mooncake Festival on September 13 (Saturday).

The MBPJ Zone 6 Council Member, Sia Siew Chin, said that the festival has its own uniqueness and fosters positive values in a multicultural society.

“This festival is higher in value; it is no longer the union of families but a union between races,” he said.

He added that the country’s prosperity depends on the close relationship between races that is harmonious and peaceful.

He said that this supports MBPJ’s effort of always encouraging activities that involves the participation of all races.

The Mooncake Festival brings the meaning of the end of the harvest season for the Chinese community and the day the whole family gathers, which is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month, according to the Chinese calendar.

It is one of the important festivals for the Chinese community that is celebrated with Lantern parades and Mooncake.

Tourism Selangor is one of the largest organisers of this festival that aims for the presence of foreign tourists because it is being organised at the Selangor level for the first time.

There are also various promotions to attract foreign tourists to visit this fair.

The event will begin as early as 10 am and is expected to end at 11 pm, and has many interesting activities in store to attract visitors.

Among them is a drawing and colouring contest for children, a lantern design contest and also stage performances like cultural dances, magic, live bands and so on.

Among the prizes that await the winners at the festival includes a 32-inch LED TV, electrical goods and hampers.
