PUTRAJAYA, 12 Sept: The ceremony to finalise the heads of agreement for the acquisition of the water services between the Selangor Government and the Federal Government took place at the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water today.

The ceremony at the ministry’s office in Putrajaya will see a new company, Newco Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, being formed to replace the previous water concessionaires.

The Press Secretary to the Chief Minister of Selangor, Arfa’eza Aziz, confirmed this.

The Chief Minister’s Office is also expected to issue a press statement today.

The Federal Government and the Selangor Government, on August 2, signed the heads of agreement on the restructuring of the water supply industry and a long-term solution in Selangor.

This means that the government will be fully in control of the three concessionaires that agreed with the takeover offer valued at RM9.65 billion by the Selangor Government.

Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) and Konsortium Abbas Sdn Bhd (Abbas) agreed to the offer while Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) will be acquired through the Water Services Industry Act (WSIA).
