Anwar: I could be ‘Tun Anwar’

SUBANG JAYA, 28 Oct: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is certain that he would be freed immediately in the Sodomy II case if he defected from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and declared his support towards the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Anwar, in jest, also said that he is confident that he will be awarded with the title ‘Tun’ after he announces defecting from PR.

“If I said that I regret fighting with Pakatan Rakyat and I do not like Azmin as Chief Minister, (and that) PKR, DAP and PAS are all messed up.

“I think I want to just join Umno and think Datuk Seri Najib is the best Prime Minister and think that the first lady…

“I think he would withdraw the case. A week after that I would be Tun. No messing around, Tun Anwar Ibrahim, and then I could be on the board of directors for any company,” said Anwar during the Rakyat Hakim Negara (People are the nation’s Judges Assembly at the 3K Stadium last night.

However, Anwar explained, that he would still fight with the people even though he has to face the risk of being jailed.

Anwar, 67, today faces the hearing of the Sodomy II case involving his former aide, Saiful Bukhari Azlan, at the Federal Court.

The hearing, which will take place until Thursday, will determine if Anwar will be jailed or freed, thus determining Anwar’s political future.

Political observers predict that if Anwar is sentenced to jail, he would be nearly 80 when he is released; an age that is considered over the retirement age for someone at the highest seat in politics.
