“I have called for an emergency meeting with Luas, Syabas and Datuk Khusrin Munawi at 3pm to discuss immediate measures.

“(It is) a proactive approach to solve the problem of the diesel spill at the water treatment plant and the problem of the clean water supply disruption,” he said today.

Prior to this, three main treatment plants in Sungai Selangor had to be closed due to the pollution caused by the diesel spill.

He revealed this last night and wants decisive action to be taken against those who caused the diesel pollution at the plants.

He said that at 10 last night, the level of hydrocarbon contamination at the SSP1, SSP2 and SSP3 treatment plants were at 5 ppm and caused the plants to be closed.

However, all of the treatment plants, SSP1, SSP2 and SSP3, which were closed, were operational again at 4.30 this morning.

The Syabas General Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Priscilla Alfred Dharan, in a statement today said that the treatment plants were closed since 8 last night and affected the water supply distribution around the Klang Valley and Shah Alam.

“As a result of last night’s loss in production which amounted to 1,350 million litres per day (MLD), the recovery for the affected areas will take a few days. The water tanks will be deployed to supply water to affected areas until the water supply has recovered.

“The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) is investigating the cause of the pollution,” she said.
