SHAH ALAM, 15 Oct: The Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) planted 507 saplings at Pantai Batu Laut as an initiative to create a green surrounding in the area.

The programme was implemented through the Adopted Beach Programme 2014 as an effort to create a beach area which can attract tourists, thus increasing the standards of living of the local residents, in addition to instilling a sense of belonging or ownership among local residents.

The President of MDKL, Mohd Azhar Mohamed Ali, said that everyone plays a role in preserving and improving the quality of the environment through this activity.

He said that it can also function in controlling the temperature of the earth and natural phenomenon like flash flooding and erosion which is now worrying as a result of the attitude of individuals who are irresponsible towards greenery.

“Through programmes like this, we target the involvement of school students and local residents so that they can also play a role in preserving and conserving the beach.

“To ensure the success of a programme, it does not only depend on the coordinator, but it requires cooperation from the local community to ensure the continuity of the programme carried out,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the opening of the Adopted Beach Tree Planting Programme which was also attended by the Assemblyman for Tanjung Sepat, Mohd Haslin Hassan, recently.
