Positive response by motorists, MBPJ shortens one-way road trial period

PETALING JAYA, 30 Oct: The Petaling Jaya City Council (BPJ) will shorten the trial period for the one-way road system at the city centre if they continue to receive positive response from the local residents and road users.

The Mayor, Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad, said that MBPJ and consultants found that the traffic flow is soother, especially at peak hours.

She said that every complaint received has also been successfully handled well as they made moves to improve it fast.

“If all is well, we will shorten the three month’s trial to two months.

“If it is better, we will implement this system and there is no need to wait,” she said during the full MBPJ meeting at the head office today.

Earlier, she witnessed two new council members from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) being sworn in; Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik and Shatiri Mansor.

The one-way system began enforcement on October 12 involving Jalan Sultan, Jalan Barat, Jalan Utara, Jalan Timur and Jalan Yong Shook Lin.

Alinah said that the implementation of the one-way system was made based on traffic studies which started as early as 2001, followed by a review and finished in 2012 by the Engineering Department.

“The cost used is from the development contribution fund which was imposed on developers amounting to RM23 million.

“This contribution was imposed on developers to help the council solve the traffic congestion in Petaling Jaya,” she said.
